WASHINGTON, D.C. - Douglas R. Conant, president and CEO of Campbell Soup Company, and chairman of the board of the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA), today announced the appointment of Pamela G. Bailey, president and CEO of the Personal Care Products Council (PCPC), as the association’s new president and CEO.

“I am extremely pleased that Pam Bailey has agreed to take the helm of GMA,” said Mr. Conant. “In these trying economic times, GMA’s leadership is critical to the continued success of the food, beverage and consumer packaged goods industry. Pam’s extensive experience in government service, bipartisan approach to public policy, success as a trade association leader and her strong credentials in the consumer packaged goods industry made her an obvious choice to position GMA to meet the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”

Ms. Bailey has served as president and CEO of PCPC since 2005, where she utilized strategic and organizational leadership to redefine the direction of the association, enacted the industry’s first-ever Consumer Commitment Code and enhanced the association’s advocacy and communications capabilities. PCPC is the leading trade association representing the $250 billion global cosmetic and personal care products industry. Its member companies manufacture a diverse range of products, including sunscreen, toothpaste, shampoo, moisturizer, lipstick and fragrances.

Prior to joining PCPC, Ms. Bailey served as president and CEO of the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), where she helped achieve significant FDA and Medicare payment reform. In 2002, Ms. Bailey and AdvaMed were named “A Lobby Leader of the Year” by Legal Times. In addition, she was the founding CEO and president of the Healthcare Leadership Council, a CEO-led organization tasked with reforming America’s health care policies.

Ms. Bailey has extensive experience in the public sector, having served in the Reagan White House as head of the Office of Communications Planning and also as special assistant to the President and deputy director in the Office of Public Affairs. In addition, she has served as the assistant secretary of public affairs at the United States Department of Health and Human Services, and also served as an advisor to Presidents Ford and Nixon.

Pam Bailey is a trustee of Franklin and Marshall College, and is a member of the board of directors of Greatbatch, Inc. and also of MedCath, Inc. She is also a former director of Albertson’s, Inc.

In a joint statement, Rick Wolford of Del Monte and Billy Cyr of Sunny Delight, co-chairs of the GMA Executive Search Committee, said, “Given the legislative, regulatory and economic challenges facing our industry, GMA needs a leader like Pam Bailey to bring the industry together to advocate common sense public policy and regulatory solutions, as well as collaborate more closely with our retail trading partners. We welcome her and look forward to working with her to fulfill GMA’s mission on behalf of the consumer packaged goods industry.”

Pam Bailey succeeds GMA Interim President and CEO C. Manly Molpus, and will assume her new duties in January.
