» GMA Proposal to FTC on Self-Regulation
GMA member companies that are supporters of the Children’s Advertising Review Unit (CARU) have
developed a series of recommendations to strengthen the self-regulation of advertising to
children. Their goal is to make the current system even more responsive to parents’
concerns and to reflect changes in the marketing and media environment.
» NARC White Paper
The National Advertising Review Council, the advertising industry's self-regulatory body,
released a
white paper in 2004 to increase the public's understanding of the role of
self-regulation in food advertising. "Guidance for Food Advertising Self-Regulation,"
published at the request of GMA, focuses on the work of the
Children's Advertising Review Unit and the National Advertising Division. The white paper, which includes examples of
more than 900 cases and inquiries on food and nutrition advertising, showcases the
effectiveness of advertising self-regulation.
